Out of Scope Recommendations

Looking Back is focused on the implementation of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody 1991 in Victoria. Recommendations that are not, or are no longer, relevant to Victoria were not assessed as part of this project. This page contains a list of recommendations that the AJC determined to be outside the scope of Looking Back.

Not relevant to Victoria

Some recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody were targeted at challenges being faced by specific states, and programs put in place to respond to them. Other recommendations may have been relevant to Victoria at some stage, but circumstances have changed to mean they are no longer relevant. The AJC did not assess recommendations of this kind as part of Looking Back.

Responsibility of the Commonwealth Government

Some recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody are solely the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government to implement. Where a recommendation is solely the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government, rather than state and territory governments, AJC did not assess its implementation as part of Looking Back.
